quick brown fox was chosen as the name because of the keyboard - a zillion years after the typewriter was invented, it is still the de facto form of communication. the sentence, 'the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs' is an exercise tapped out by typing students because it contains all the letters of the alphabet. also, in middle english, tod was fox.
